Hi! I’m Tamara Vukelic, a Registered Social Worker in private practice in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada.
I’m so glad you’re here.

For clients:

I offer therapy for clients on a secure, virtual platform or in my home-based office in Stoney Creek, accompanied by my sweet, hypo-allergenic Shichon dog named Pepper. She has been by my side in sessions since I first started offering virtual care in my home office in 2020. She will be very excited to see you in person, and then quickly settles next to you or in her little bed, depending on your preference and hers (she is a good model for boundaries). My specialty is psychotherapy for adult survivors of trauma. My mission is to support and guide you in a therapeutic experience where you will learn to cultivate more empathy, curiosity and connection within yourself.

If you are a new or experienced therapist, coaching and consultation can address:

• Building your practice
• Improving your clinical confidence and skills
• Compassion fatigue and burnout
• Case conceptualization
• Treatment planning
• Ethical dilemmas
• Practice development - burnout proof your practice for increased flexibility and meaning in your work

For therapists:

I have been offering training and consultation to social work students throughout my career, and fellow therapists over the last 15 years.

You can develop a practice that allows flexibility for your personal life. In consultation, we work together to support you in building a sustainable practice that is aligned with you as a person and therapist. With greater alignment between the personal and professional, you will lower the risks of compassion fatigue and burnout, while increasing the meaning, joy and fulfillment in your heart-centered work.

My own experiences of healing with EMDR treatment have been profound and life-changing. As a result, I have been driven to develop a speciality in EMDR treatment for clients and consultation for therapists. I am passionate to share this powerful psychotherapy with others who can benefit from it as greatly as I have. These experiences have greatly increased my respect and compassion for myself, my clients, and my passion for my work as a therapist. They have also helped me to be able to sit with my clients’ experiences in a calm and compassionate way.

My Story

Learning more about your potential therapist is important.

More important than credentials and experience is the personal conection between you and your therapist. Sometimes it can be reassuring to know that your therapist can also be vulnerable and has a shared experience with both pain and healing.

I can remember trying to understand other people and my environment since a very young age. I immigrated to Canada from the former Yugoslavia with my family when I was almost 4 years old. The challenges of immigration, intersection of culture, language and identity have been a part of my own lived experience I continue to weave into my understanding of myself and this world. These experiences have helped me to greatly respect and appreciate the intersection of my clients’ identities and their lived experience whether it be culture, race, economic, sexuality, gender, ability, or neurodiversity.

Experience in domestic violence services, in-patient trauma units, out-patient mental health units, primary care (doctor’s offices) and years of close collaboration with family physicians and psychiatrists

Professional Credentials and Memberships:

Outside of the therapy room, I’m a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and dog mom.

The quality of my relationships is central in my life. I love spending time with my family and friends, enjoying new experiences or just sharing the small parts of our days over a nourishing meal or cup of coffee. In my spare time, I love to search for treasures in thrift stores, and am steadily progressing through a very long reading list.
